Lesson 1
Look at the system, not the brand badge.
Two Sony sets, or two TCL sets, can run different systems. This cleanyourtv tutorial follows the system. Find the name in Settings before you change anything.
| What you have | What you do next, on this site |
|---|---|
| Android TV or Google TV The home screen is Google’s, with a recommendations row and the Play Store. About names Android or Google TV and shows a build. |
Continue to the cleanyourtv tutorial. Part 1 replaces the home screen from the Play Store. Part 2 is only if Home did not change, and it can black-screen the set. |
| Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio, or Hisense VIDAA Tizen, webOS, Roku OS, and VIDAA are not Android. The session in Lesson 2 cannot run. |
Stay on this page. You can turn off a tracking switch that is already in Settings. You cannot follow the cleanyourtv home-screen lesson. |
| You are not sure | Open Settings and look for About or Device. Android TV and Google TV name themselves and show a build number. Tizen, webOS, and Roku OS name themselves too. If the name is missing, do not guess. Stop. |
If it is not Android
These sets cannot run the home-screen replacement. You can still refuse a tracking switch the manufacturer already put in Settings. Look for a privacy or terms page, then viewing information, automatic content recognition, or a live-recommendation feature, and turn that off if you see it. Samsung often groups this with viewing-information services. LG has called the related feature Live Plus. If the row is missing, the sponsored interface stays. Do not start Lesson 2.
