Lesson 4
The new home screen is reversible. The debugging step can blank the set.
Part 1 of cleanyourtv only changes which app opens when you press Home. You undo it in that app’s own settings. Part 2 turns the stock home off. The order of those two Google TV commands is what keeps a picture on the screen.
Do not disable launcherx by itself.
On Google TV, setupwraith comes first, then launcherx. Reversing that order has left sets on a black screen. If you cannot factory-reset this model from its manual, do not start Part 2. If a command says the package does not exist, stop. Do not search for other package names.
What can go wrong
- A Google TV system update can ignore the Part 1 override and show the sponsored home again. That is the only reason to consider Part 2 of cleanyourtv.
- Part 2 uses network debugging. Leave it on only while you type the commands, then turn USB debugging and Network debugging off.
- Disabling voice, casting, the store, updates, or any package not named on the tutorial page is outside this lesson. Those commands are how sets lose features.
pm uninstallis not a step here. Disabled packages can be enabled again. Removed ones cannot.- If the screen is already black and the computer is no longer connected, the remaining fix is the factory reset in that model’s manual. Do not type more disable commands.
- Ads inside Netflix, YouTube, and other apps are not removed. Expecting that result and then disabling more packages is how this goes past the lesson.
Before you type a command
- Confirm Android TV or Google TV on Lesson 1. Every other system stops there.
- Finish Part 1 and press Home. If Projectivy opens, you are done. Do not open developer options.
- Write down the three
pm enablelines from the cleanyourtv tutorial before you disable anything. - Use only the package names printed for your system: two for Google TV, one for older Android TV.
